DWELL (Daylight, Wellbeing, and the Living Environment Lab) investigates how the built environment shapes human comfort, health, and wellbeing. Led by Dr. Sneha Jain, the lab combines psychophysical experiments, physiological measurement, field monitoring, and building simulation to understand the broader impact of indoor environmental quality on occupants, with a particular focus on the impact of daylight on vulnerable populations such as older adults in affordable housing.
Research areas: Human comfort & wellbeing, indoor environment quality, windows & daylighting, building automation & control.
Current lab initiatives:
- DWELL is building a Living Lab at SAPL’s Downtown building to monitor indoor building environment’s impact on health and wellbeing funded by Catalyst Grant.
- DWELL is leading a transdisciplinary collaboration “A Transdisciplinary Framework for Designing Healthier Living Environments” funded by Connector grant. The team include City of Calgary, Archietcural firm SPECTACLE and faculties of psychology, arts, and engineering.
